Oil Spill Review

Canberra, August 09

Noetic has developed an array of expertise in undertaking reviews of lessons following significant disasters and events throughout Australia including Tropical Cyclone Larry in Queensland, the Wangary Fires in South Australia and the Equine Influenza in New South Wales.  Noetic recently conducted a review of the Pacific Adventurer Oil Spill for the Queensland Department Environment & Resource Management (DERM).  Over 250 DERM staff contributed to the response and performed admirably under challenging conditions and evolving command and control arrangements.  For most staff members this incident represented their introduction to environmental and natural resource management within the context of a disaster.  Noetic developed a review process that enhanced the awareness of individual staff members of the context of their involvement and developed Department-wide understanding of the actions required to strengthen future responses.  Noetic review culminated with ten priority recommendations for the Department that addressed both internal preparedness and external arrangements.
